Later, we’ll delve into Ted Hughes’ classic The Iron Man, using it as inspiration for creative writing, comprehension, and developing our descriptive language skills.
Maths ➗✖️
In Maths, we’ll continue to strengthen our understanding of multiplication and division before moving on to:
- Length and perimeter
- Fractions and decimals
Science 🔬
This term, our Science topics include:
- Sound: Investigating how sound is made, travels, and how we hear it.

Year 4 Autumn Term Learning 🍂
Year 4 Investigates the Science of Teeth! 🦷✨
Year 4 have been sinking their teeth into some fascinating science learning! They explored the different types of teeth we have and their functions, identifying incisors, canines, premolars, and molars and discussing how each plays a vital role in breaking down our food.
To make their learning even more exciting, the class conducted a hands-on experiment using boiled eggs to investigate how different drinks can effect the enamel on our teeth. Boiled eggs were used as a model because their shells are similar to the enamel covering our teeth. The eggs were soaked in Coca-Cola, orange juice, milk, and water.
The results were eye-opening! The eggs in Coke and orange juice showed signs of damage, demonstrating how the sugars and acids in these drinks can harm tooth enamel, if we don’t take care of our teeth. In contrast, the eggs in milk and water fared much better, showing no significant changes.
This experiment highlighted the importance of brushing our teeth regularly and making mindful choices about what we drink to keep our smiles healthy and bright! 🪥😁
