Science
At St Thomas’s CE Primary, we understand that a high-quality Science education provides children with the foundations for understanding the world. Our Science curriculum aims to foster a healthy curiosity in children about our universe and to promote respect for the living and non-living. Science teaching at St Thomas’s CE Primary School aims to build children’s knowledge and understanding of the world around them through first-hand experience and exploration. We want to inspire and challenge our pupils to become independent thinkers who use their scientific understanding to help make sense of the world they live in. The curriculum is designed to ensure that children are able to acquire the key scientific knowledge as identified in the National Curriculum through practical experiences: using equipment, conducting experiments, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently, whilst at the same time building up an extended specialist vocabulary. Cross-curricular opportunities are also carefully identified, mapped and planned to ensure contextual relevance.
